Can't find Scanning Source

I just purchased a scanner and was in the process of setting it up. Upon attempting to scan Microsoft Photo Editor asked for scanning source. When the window opened up there were no sources listed. What do I do.
I cannot find the software for the Microsoft Photo Editer either... Help me Please...
