In Reply to: Can I universally replace embedded fonts in a received PDF document? posted by john w on July 13, 1999 at 10:36:04:
The help desk desk say if the settings are correct in the pdf's production then there shouldn't be a font problem. I
haven't been able to test this yet. They said that the creator should select in the 'job options':
Print Optimised OR Press Optimised [though Press Optimised makes bigger files]
BUT:
It seems that it's impossible to replace all occurances of a font in a PDF in one stroke rather than line [aarrghh] by
line. They hadn't thought of it?!?!?
This is just incredible. They said they'd pass the comment on and perhaps they may include that in the next
version.
How could it not occur to them?

: If I receive a PDF version of a Quark or Pagemaker file from a Macintosh. The embedded fonts, though they may display correctly on a PC [don't know why as they're Mac ones!]
: - simply won't print. The default arial and times ones are used.
: Can I find a list of these embedded Macintosh fonts in the document and replace them with pc friendly Windows ttf's of my choice universally?
: I mean rather than line by line - which would take years.
: I'd like to do this so that the replacement fonts will be truly embedded - displaying and printing correctly from any other PC?
: Hope you can help. Thanks,
: John
