Any advice to an aspiring graphic artist?

I will soon graduate with a B.F.A. from UT Austin and I am considering a career in graphics art. I would appreciate any tips from experienced graphic artists regarding requisite preparation for this field as well as job outlook, stability, and earnings potential in graphic art. Additionally, any advice for getting into this line of work would be greatly appreciated.
