Found this as a post here, maybe.
To the best of my knowledge, you can't keep all of the original characteristics, but you can keep the cells separated by tabs. If you can, save the PC Excel file as tab delimited ASCII, open it up in a WP program, copy and paste it into Quark. If you have Mac Excel, just open up the PC file and copy and paste it into Quark. (If the original file was constructed correctly, this should go smoothly.) Just make sure to check invisibles  you might end up with some goofy stuff that you need to change.
