Dear Sir or Madam:
I am looking for info and advise on an issue I am dealing with as a contract graphic artist. For the past 2 years I have worked for myself doing graphics. I had worked for a advertising agency/magazine for 4 years prior to this. I still do alot of work for this company. They are not my sole client, but I do get most of my work from them. Recently, we haven't been seeing eye to eye on things. When I first started working for myself, they asked me not to deliberately go out for their clients business. I agreed of course. But now, they have asked me to notify them if I ever receive/accept a job offer from anyone that they have ever done business for. Coming from a smaller city, that pretty much covers all business - almost. They say that they wouldn't feel comfortable using someone as a freelancer if they are taking possible work from them. As someone who looks out for my company's best interest, I feel that I am cutting myself short of alot of possible graphic work out there. How can I solve this problem with them without losing them as a client? I also within my 2 years of freelancing, have bought camera equipment to expand my business. They are now telling me that any photography work (if it is for a client that they have EVER worked with) must come throught their company. I feel like their own personal laborer, but they don't pay near enough to be that. Please help if you can. Thanks, Meredith Wright
