I work in the prepress dept. for a printing business. We do mostly high-end 4-Color process printing of brochures, product sell sheets, etc. MS Publisher has been treated like a pariah in most places similar to ours because the workflow centers mostly around QuarkXPress and Pagemaker. But we have always tried to do our best when someone brings in a CorelDraw or Publisher layout. Until recently, we believed MS when they said that Publisher DOES NOT SUPPORT PROCESS COLOR PRINTING. So we just did workarounds to get the color portions out and printed the text and lineart from publisher. We have figured out a really good way to do process separations from native publisher files now though....
So we are going to create a new branch of our prepress dept. to specialize in process color printing of Publisher layouts and Word documents with an eye to servicing what we think may be a huge number of frustrated Publisher users who have tried in vain to get real 4-color printing at their local print houses but were laughed out or told that they had to recreate the layout in Quark, etc.
We would like to get an idea though of just how many people are interested in this service. We are now building a custom website to guide folks in uploading their native Publisher files (not ps files) and making an interface for online proofing of customers jobs and online ordering and payment. Prices are going to be very good; similar to color laser prices (around $1/sheet up to 250 sheets plus 6 cents/sheet for any quantity above that) and print quality will be superb; much better than inkjets or color lasers.
So if you have been looking for something like this please let me know. We won't bother you with email ads. I just want to get an idea of how many people have been needing this and might be interested.
