: I am about to start my own DTP business. I am self taught. I really could use some help on the business end of this endeavor. How do you set your prices? Were you not nervous when you first started? Should I really invest in Syquest or a Zip drive? Which is better? Should I wait and go to school first? I have a lot of questions but can't find any answers? Any help would be appreciated. I'm so glad to see that there are so many people who can make a living at this. I 've been told that there really isn't a need for this because so many people these days have there own computers and
: software.
: Thank you all, This page is great!

Dear Gloria:
Do not be afraid. It is great demand of Desktop Publisher. You need to read a lot to self-educated yourself in this field, if you could get some good course that will help you, but courses only teach you about 25% of the business the rest you get it in the daily work. Place your services as a part-time job till you get enough clients to support yourself and be a full time Desktop Publisher. Prices are differents acording to the job characteristics, client and area where you are. Good starting is to contact small printers that do no have much pre-press. Those are good client because they give you something to do all the time and it is a great learn before getting to the big league.
Any advise please fell free to contact me. I start like you in 1989 and some months now I made more that 10 grands. I'm also speak and write spanish if you need it.
Good luck!
Michael Cervantes
