Depends on the output you produce. If you are doing mainly black and white to your own desktop printer, then MSPub 97 is definitely the way to go. It's fast and friendly.
If you do more color output or output to service bureus etc. then you have no choice but to use PageMaker. Most service bureaus would scoff at Publisher!
I have both and have found Pub97 to be an excellent time saving program for producing B&W copy from my desktop. I save PageMaker for more high end jobs.
