: : : I would like to hear from people who are working in the field of desk top publishing.
: : : I will be taking courses soon and will have my advanced certificate by September.
: : : For me, this is a new career field. I've had low paying clerical positions. My passion has been photography as an art form and I enjoy being creative.
: : : Please share you experiences with me and tell me all you can about your careers.
: : : Thanks
: : : Stephanie
: : Stephanie - what sort of courses are you taking? I'm in the
: : same situation and looking for advice. I'm in New York City
: : and there are lots of places that offer classes, but the
: : prices vary widely, and I'm still trying to narrow things
: : down. I'd love to hear from you - good luck in your career change!
: : Susan

I'm in the same situation as you--except I'm a stay-at-home Mom with a preschooler, so I'm learning "on my own." I find that Adobe's "Classroom in a Book" series is quite valuable as a "class" in my own home. It really helped me learn what I know about PageMaker pretty quickly.
I hope to someday begin a home-based biz--that is, when I learn Illustrator and Photoshop, too!!!
I hope to take some classes next year when my preschooler becomes a kindergartener, but I'll be working on a magazine for a volunteer org that I'm active in, and time will be a factor, as always.
I'd be interested in hearing about your coursework.
Thanks,
Beth
