PageMaker "Place" error

Hope someone can help. I'm using PM6.5 (Win), and when I try to place a Word (7.0 or '97) file, I get a "do not know how to place" error in PM. I can place the text by copy/special paste, or by "insert object," but obviously cannot edit the text this way.

I've reinstalled the filters for Word 6.0-7.0, etc., and the dialog box that pops up with the "error" even lists Word filters. When I click on the Word filter in the box, it just goes back to the same box, and still will not place the text.

I'd appreciate it is anyone has worked thru this problem.
