: : : : I would like to hear from people who are working in the field of desk top publishing.
: : : : I will be taking courses soon and will have my advanced certificate by September.
: : : : For me, this is a new career field. I've had low paying clerical positions. My passion has been photography as an art form and I enjoy being creative.
: : : : Please share you experiences with me and tell me all you can about your careers.
: : : : Thanks
: : : : Stephanie

: : : Stephanie - what sort of courses are you taking? I'm in the
: : : same situation and looking for advice. I'm in New York City
: : : and there are lots of places that offer classes, but the
: : : prices vary widely, and I'm still trying to narrow things
: : : down. I'd love to hear from you - good luck in your career change!

: : : Susan

: : This is Belgrade,Yugoslavia wishes u all the best with your latest career
: : move. But...What exactly would u like to hear?
: : Boyan

: I'm in the same situation as you--except I'm a stay-at-home Mom with a preschooler, so I'm learning "on my own." I find that Adobe's "Classroom in a Book" series is quite valuable as a "class" in my own home. It really helped me learn what I know about PageMaker pretty quickly.

: I hope to someday begin a home-based biz--that is, when I learn Illustrator and Photoshop, too!!!

: I hope to take some classes next year when my preschooler becomes a kindergartener, but I'll be working on a magazine for a volunteer org that I'm active in, and time will be a factor, as always.

: I'd be interested in hearing about your coursework.

: Thanks,
: Beth

I've been in the printing industry for over 12 years after graduating from a polytechnic school in the field.
Made the jump into DTP about 5 years ago on a part-time basis. Learning quite abit along the way.
The part-time route was a good move, had the security of a full-time job while I was on my learning curve.
Operate on my own now out of a home office and doing quite well.
If you get a chance drop by my home page at www.followme.com/qzone.
I bit of advice - cover your but and always double check your work.
Mistakes tend to cut into your profit margins.
