I've been a Technical Writer/Publications Manager for about 6 years. I went back to grad school and got a Master's
in this field. Desktop publishing can be creative and fulfilling, but talk to people in this field
and find out what options are available. A course in the subject can be a useful expansion of your
clerical abilities, but there may be more people who can do desktop publishing than there are jobs
available. Look into technical writing as an option--most new pieces of software that come out need manuals.
And new software is coming out every day. So technical writing is a rapidly expanding field. Desktop
publishing is a subset of what many tech writers do.
: I would like to hear from people who are working in the field of desk top publishing.
: I will be taking courses soon and will have my advanced certificate by September.
: For me, this is a new career field. I've had low paying clerical positions. My passion has been photography as an art form and I enjoy being creative.
: Please share you experiences with me and tell me all you can about your careers.
: Thanks
: Stephanie
