: : I'm considering a career change from being a secretary to working in dtp. I've read the postings in here and gotten a lot of valuable advice, for which I thank you all. However, I'm wondering what anyone can tell me about making the switch. I need to learn the programs - I have very rudimentary knowledge. I've been advised to go through temp agencies that train you and then send you out on jobs - has anyone done that? I've also been told to take classes - the competition is so tough out there I need to have thorough knowledge before I can start working in the field. My eventual goal is to run a business from my home. Any and all advice will be appreciated.
I went through the same thing and had NO desire to go to actual school.
I cam across ICS (International Correspondence School) and am in the midst
of taking this course now. It runs about $700 I think, but they split it
up to about $30 per month (no interest). It includes PageMaker 6 and
LOTS of useful info on design/publishing/computer equip necessary, etc.
Something to look into. They are at www.icslearn.com
p.s. You can go at your pace. I have just about finished in
8 wks!!
