In Reply to: Xpress, Pagemaker, or Ventura? posted by Fred on July 08, 1997 at 15:48:02:
: We have an old (4.2) release of Corel Ventura that I inherited to put together our technical manuals with. Unfortunately, Corel doesn't support it any longer, so we are looking to buy a new publisher. Our manuals are anywhere from 100-400 pages long. I've read a lot about PageMaker and QuarkExpress, but I also understand that Corel has rewritten Ventura and it's supposed to be a pretty good program. I'm a bit new to the technical writing field, so I'm not familiar with anything other than this old version of Ventura. Any suggestions on what works better?

My thoughts are: Forget all three. If your main work is technical manuals of that length, then you can't go past Framemaker. You can download a demo (useable but without the print feature)from Adobe's site so you can try it out first.
