: : I am a communications student. In our class we are learning some desktop publishing skills, etc. My question is this:
: : QuarkXPress or Pagemaker is more important to know? In class we have become XPress/Photoshop experts, but I have no idea when it comed to PageMaker or Corel Draw. Should I learn these programs? Or will I be alright in the work world with only XPress knowledge?
: Buy QuarkXpress!
: Pagemaker beats Quark if your gonna make over 100 pages or so, but if it's for use in newspaper and single document (or up to 10 sides in one document) Quark is the program.
: I was so lucky to be on the team who started the first mewspaper in Norway who used 100% QuarkXpress for Windows, and we did'nt have any trouble at all, even if the press used Mac.
: Good luck!
: Trygve :-)
I agree--learn Quark! I am a graduating senior in journalism at Northern Kentucky University and the editor of our college newspaper. I'm also doing a project right now comparing Quark, PageMaker and CorelDRAW--my findings, as well as my vast experience with these programs tells me that Quark is the way to go. However, these other programs are also valuable skills to learn. Good Luck! Gabrielle
