: I am a communications student. In our class we are learning some desktop publishing skills, etc. My question is this:
: QuarkXPress or Pagemaker is more important to know? In class we have become XPress/Photoshop experts, but I have no idea when it comed to PageMaker or Corel Draw. Should I learn these programs? Or will I be alright in the work world with only XPress knowledge?
Jill,
The more you know, the more marketable you are. I know next to nothing about Quark, but have done some work with a printer in Seattle (National Color Systems), and they use PageMaker because most of their clients use it (the owner calls PageMaker the industry standard).
So that's my two cents' worth. Oh, and I'm a desktop publisher, and rarely have the need for a drawing program (such as CorelDraw or Illustrator), but I am going to learn Illustrator...because the more you know, the more marketable you are :-)
