If you have already tried to re-install the apps and the fonts, then they are probably fine. If you don't use it, I would try Adobe Type Manager (ATM) it really helps to control the overall performance of fonts and it really performs well on the OS systems. Also, have you received the 7.0 Illustrator update? If not, get it. 7.0 had quite a few problems with gradients and I do believe fonts as well. If this persists, I'd try to contact Adobe.
