I am A ilustrator and would sugest the mac for a few reasons. It is true that a PC is easier to build from the ground up, but unless you are a computer scientist or hobiest is is usless to a desighner
I own a powermac 7100 and my roomate has a pentium100, I have found that my mac, although it is only 66mhz is faster using Adobe photoshop I have learned this is becouse of two reasons.
first my mac is true 32 bit(new macs are 128 bit) pc's are 16 bit, the second reason is that macs instruction code is shorter meaning to perform the same task the mac's risc prossesor has less work to do
than a pc. As far as technology on the contrary of the first reply mac has the definat edge; wider memory bus/ fast scsi wide/ and multiple prossesor capability.
For disighner especialy for those interested in multimedia design or publishing the mac has a clear edge.
One mor point is the with the introduction th clones mac are becoming more and more versitile, It is now easier to upgrade where previously pc's had the edge in this department. Prossesors in new macs are possible to be poped out
and replaced with faster counterparts. some companies are even starting to sell logic boards.
