Splitting up images is called "Slicing" Imageready or Fireworks will do a better job. But you can do it by hand. Basically you just cut up the image into pieces the creat tables in html with columns and rows the same size as your pieces and place the sections inside your cells.
Like I said Imageready would do all the coding for you then you can just go back and clean it up.
