I looked at some sites but they seemed to rely on specific software for converting. I am not sure how it works, but based on those sites I've determined that you need to save it as a GIF-89 interlaced document.
In photoshop I was able to use the lasso to copy the image I wanted, paste it into a window specifying transparent background when I pasted it in, and
then going to the file menu and exporting it as GIF interlaced. At that point it asked me what color to use as the mask (the transparent part) and I switched the default from grey to pure white. All parts of that
image that were pure white are now transparent. Hopefully that will give you enough of an idea to fiddle with it and create your own. I'll be working on mine some more too to figure out the easiest way to do it.

: Greetings. I apologize if this question has already been asked. I looked through the database and couldnt find any reference. Here is the question:
: I am creating an HTML document using a PC. I use a Mac for my artwork. I have created several Painter 4 files that contain images that I wish to use in the HTML document. I already have a GIF background image that I will use in the HTML document. I wish to overlay the images that I have created in Painter 4. The problem is that no matter how I save them, (as floaters, etc.) in whatever file format, (TIFF, JPEG, etc.) I am not able to save just the image. In other words I am unable to make the background transparent so that I can overlay it on my GIF background.
: Im sure there is a way to do this as Ive seen transparent GIFs on the Web. Can anyone help me?
: P.S. I also have access to Photoshop and Illustrator.
