: I DESPERATELY need to know how to scan in black and white pen and ink art so i can color it "comic-book-style" with Photoshop's airbrush tools... ive tried it, scanning it in as black and white art, and the damned "add layer" thingie is greyed out...please keep in mind that i need to be able to layer the art and make the scan-in a layer....you see, i have to be able to airbrush on top of the black and white art and then change the order of the layers so the black pen strokes are ON TOP of the actual coloring (i also need to know how to make the "white" of the scan "clear" or "invisible" so it obviously doesnt cover up the bottom layer of computer-coloring...do you see what I mean?
: PLEASE email me if you can help me with this, as it is going to give me a stroke if I can't figure it out :)
: I just happen to come across this. I may be able to help. What are your other settings when you scan. Make sure your file is an 8 bit file and not a 16 bit file(switch it to 8 bit). Try after scanning the illustration to switch the mode of the image to grayscale though it should all ready be. Check to see what file format its save as ex. photoshop, jpeg, gif , pdf etc some file formats do not allow for layers. To your second question, to stay within the lines... go under Selection and select color range. Click the eye dropper click on the color (in this case white) that you want selected. Hit return ... It should have selected all the whits of the image. You can ajust the amount of white that it picks up with the fuzziness slide bar in color range. Next you can either delete the white areas or copy and paste onto new layer or just paint within the selection directly. If have more question or clarification just e-mail me
