: I am archiving my files from My Macintosh onto our Novell 3.12 server and then burning them onto a cd-rom using a Phillips Omniwriter attached to one of our NT stations. The files transfer fine but when I try to open them up on the MAC it won't open the files. It acts like the asssociation to the program has been lost. When I go into Quark and try to open the file it doesn't work either.

: Any suggestions
I experienced a similar problem after transferring some Quark pages to our UNIX server and then ftping them to a service bureau's NT server. The files were okay unless I copied them back to the Mac and tried to open them. Somewhere along the way the resource fork was stripped from the file so all that was left was the data fork. (The big difference between Mac and everyone else). So they were unreadable by the Mac. There's probably a workaround for this, but since we never copy files back and use them on the Mac we didn't pursue it. I only know the cause, not the cure, unfortunately. Good Luck! The problem may be in the CD-ROM burning software, try copying the file back from the server or the Windows machine and see if you can still open them. If not, try a different formatting option for the CD-ROM.
