Disturbing items with separations. Please help.

When printing CMYK separations, alongside the image area are grayscale and color bars. Those bars are really getting in the way while printing on paper. So then I have to cut them out. How do I get rid of those bars? Is there an extension or do I have to experiment with ResEdit?
