Macromedia DreamWeaver continued

Behavior

The Behavior tool allows animations, sounds, rollover effects and alert messages to be easily inserted into a page. In order to add a behavior simply select the object, choose the Event and a corresponding Action for the pop-up menus; the necessary JavaScript will then be added into the source code.Animation Behavior

This technique has many similarities to another Macromedia product, Director, as it uses a Timeline window to assign layers. To create animation assign layers to different segments of the timeline. One can then make changes without ActiveX or Java by simply changing the DHTML layer properties over time.

Summary

The Interface, like the rest of the Macromedia family is slick and elegantly designed. However, as there is an abundance of features certain pages can become cluttered with different floating palettes. After spending more time with DreamWeaver we kept certain palettes closed thus minimizing the onscreen traffic jams.

The beta release offered no keyboard shortcuts for even basic tasks. The setting up external style sheets, though ultimately rewarding, required wading through several dialog boxes. The final release has remedied this situation however, offering a great deal of shortcuts. Unlike most HTML editors you cannot create links by dropping HTML files from the desktop onto selected text.

Update:

Obviously this is a review for an early version of Dreamweaver. Adobe has since acquired Macromedia .. and the current version is Dreamweaver CS3. You can find current Dreamweaver tips and tricks .. and links to Dreamweaver video tutorials on this page, as well as reviews of current versions.
